Moles can appear anywhere on the body and range in the shape and size. By the age of 25, people can have anywhere from 10-40 moles on their body, including your face!
Our surgeons at the Facial Surgery and Cosmetic Centre remove facial moles for cosmetic reasons. However, if there is change in size, shape or colour your Dermatologist should be notified.
The area to be treated is cleansed with an antiseptic solution and numbed with a local anesthetic. There are 2 options for removal. A small radio frequency charged wire loop is used to shave off the mole or it can be surgically excised with a blade. Either procedure is relatively painless.
After the procedure it is very important to keep the area moist. Apply a thin layer of Polysporin 3 times daily for the first 7-10 days. Cleanse the area 3 times daily with water and diluted Hydrogen Peroxide, then reapply Polysporin.
The area will form a crust which will fall off in a week. After that it is very important to use a good sunscreen to keep the area from pigmenting. The area will be red for up to 3 months before turning back to normal skin colour.
