Laser Assisted Uvuloplasty

Sleep Better, Breathe Better with Laser Assisted Uvuloplasty (LAUP)

Is LAUP right for me?

Reduce vibrations and breathe more freely. LAUP opens the airway for clear, quiet breath.

Removing the uvula not only opens the airway and allows you to breathe freely, it helps treats snoring, frequent waking, and other symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), as well as the effects of a ‘heavy neck’ so you can and get the rest you need.

A Fast day-surgery with minimal recovery time – results within weeks of healing.

  • Initial consultation is performed with the surgeon (Dr. G. Antoniak or Dr. J. Bonaparte) to determine if the patient is a good candidate for surgery.
  • Quotation for surgery is given and explained to patient.
  • A detailed pre-operative appointment is scheduled with a Registered Nurse to review preoperative and postoperative instructions.
  • The LAUP surgery is performed in our fully equipped surgicentre, as a day surgery.
  • It is done under local anesthesia i.e. the uvula and soft palate is completely numbed locally with lidocaine.
  • You will be sitting in an upright position during the procedure where your heart rate and oxygen level will be monitored by a Registered Nurse.
  • The uvula is removed using a laser.
  • Length of surgery : 20 min
  • After surgery you will be asked to wait until the anesthetic has worn off before eating or drinking anything (approximately 1 hour).
  • Effects from surgery usually start 3-4 weeks after, once healed.
