(Ear Pinning)

Improve The Appearance of the Ears with Otoplasty

Is Otoplasty right for me?

Correct the size, Improve the Placement, or Refine the Proportions of the Ear

Otoplasty is ear-pinning, and more.  It can amend the size of the ear, and  cartilage can be trimmed to give the ears improved proportionality with size and shape of your head and face.

A quick, day-surgical process performed with light sedation and local anesthetic – minimal recovery time

  • Initial consultation is performed with surgeon (Dr. G. Antoniak or Dr. J. Bonaparte) to determine if patient is a good candidate for surgery.
  • Quotation for surgery is given and explained to patient.
  • A detailed pre-operative appointment is scheduled with a Registered Nurse to review preoperative and postoperative instructions.
  • The ear pinning surgery is performed in our fully equipped surgicentre which is up to standards in terms of safety and procedures.  The Facial Surgery and Cosmetic Centre of Ottawa is part of the OHPIP program keeping up to date with latest quality of care procedures and standards and receiving regular inspections by the College of physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
  • Length of surgery :
    • 1 ear takes 20min
    • 2 ears takes 40min
  • The incisions for otoplasty are placed behind the ear, in the fold where the ear joins to the head.
  • Otoplasty usually involves the removal of cartilage and skin, occasionally trimming the cartilage into a more pleasing shape and pinning it with permanent sutures.
  • A compression bandage is worn for 5 days postoperatively.
  • Follow-up is scheduled 1 week post-op.
